About Lavoro AI
"Lavoro" means work. So does "robot," as introduced in Čapek's play in 1920. We're here to make robots work with humans, so humans are free to flourish, starting with the hardest, most human work of all: caregiving.
The Team
Jean founded Lavoro based on her long-term research on robot intelligence as an Associate Research Professor at Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute and Director of the Bot Intelligence Group (BIG). Her work has earned several best paper awards at ICRA, IROS, HRI, and Humanoids, and has been covered by the New York Times and other media.
Jean strongly believes that innovations should be accessible to ordinary people. Her vision is a world where anyone can easily use robots to get things done, starting with caregiving, the domain where trust and ease of use matter most.
Prior to joining the faculty at CMU, Jean was a commercialization specialist at the National Robotics Engineering Center, where she converted research prototypes into field-ready systems. She now leads Lavoro's technical direction, from infrastructure today to the caregiving foundation model ahead.
Driven by firsthand witness to caregiver burnout and clinical data linking it to poorer patient outcomes, Dr. Oh-Park co-founded Lavoro to build passive, frictionless technology that seamlessly works in the background to support caregivers.
As a physiatrist with three decades of experience in patient care, academic leadership, and shaping the field of geriatric rehabilitation, she conducts clinical research on gait, falls, and the interplay between cognition and mobility in older adults. Her work sits at the intersection of healthcare and technology. She has led clinical trials of robotic gait training and telerehabilitation, chaired a hospital technology and device council, and directed hospital-wide implementation of the Age-Friendly Care framework at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in New York.
At Lavoro, Mooyeon leads operations and customer relationships, grounding the company's caregiving thesis in clinical reality: who needs help, what safety and trust genuinely require, and what value a robot creates.
